Unit 2 Our Circulatory System
Point to Remember!- Our bones and muscles work together to move.
- There are three different types of muscles.
- Smooth, cardiac muscles are involuntary while skeletal muscles are voluntary.
- Three vital components of the circulatory system are the heart, blood, and vessels.
- Our blood consists of plasma, blood cells, and platelets.
- The heart is a hollow muscular pump that pumps blood throughout the body.
- The human heart has four chambers, two atriums, and two ventricles.
Excercise (Solved)
A. Answer the following questions.
- What is the human heart made of? Why is it important?
Ans: The human heart is made up of four chambers, upper two chambers are the right and left atrium. The lower two chambers are the right and left ventricles.
The heart is an important organ that pumps and circulates blood throughout the body. - Describe the blood and its function.
Ans: Blood is a fluid that moves through blood vessels. It consists of plasma, blood cells, and platelets. - What is the function of capillaries?
Ans: Capillaries are the network of very thin blood vessels. Capillaries connect the arteries and veins and deliver nutrients and oxygenated blood to cells and remove waste produced by the cells. - What would happen if there were no valves in the heart?
Ans: Valves are a very important component of the heart. They keep blood flowing in the right direction. If the heart had no valves, circulation would be failed. - What is the size of your heart?
Ans: The size of the heart is slightly bigger than the fist.
- Our heart is made up of _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ muscle. (smooth, cardiac, skeletal)
- The _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ system is made of the heart, blood, and vessels. (skeletal, circulatory, digestive)
- The liquid component of blood is _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _. (blood cell, plasma, platelets)
- _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ carry blood away from the heart. (arteries, veins, capillaries)
C. Write down any two differences.
Ans: Arteries: Carry blood away from heart, thicker blood vessels.
Veins: Carry blood back to the heart, thinner blood vessels.
